Semantic Network Technologies

Introduction

In traditional information systems (databases) the data model is designed in most cases with a particular application (usage) in mind. In the Semantic Network of TNO there is only a high level generic data model that allows all kinds of information to exist. There is no a priori intended usage of whatever information that is available in the network. Content is added whenever possible. The semantics of the source are respected. This results in a multi-model multi-author network in which the same kind of information can be available in different forms (and granularity).

This perspective allows the investigation of the ins and outs of manipulating information in its most complicated form and enables automatic information maintenance. When deciding to add a piece of information to the network we consider only the context in which it is available and the form is has in its source.
